چکیده

Background and Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the relation between bucco-lingual dimension and root canal morphology in mandibular incisors. Materials and Methods: A total of 100 mandibular incisors were used in this study. The bucco-lingual dimensions of each tooth were measured at the level of cemento-enamel junction by using a digital caliper. Thereafter, the crowns were ground off until the root canal orifice was exposed. The canal orifices of each tooth were negotiated under the operation microscope. Additionally, digital-radiographs were taken from approximal aspect and then grouped according to the Vertucci’s classification. The Student t-test and one-way ANOVA, followed by a post hoc analysis at a level of 0.05 were made. Results: Statistical analysis showed that both the number and the type of root canals were significantly affected from buccolingual dimension. Conclusions: When the bucco-lingual dimension increased, two canals were observed. During the clinical practice the buccolingual dimension of the tooth crown should be considered as a preoperative predictor related to the canal morphology.

The purpose of this study was to conduct a cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) investigation on the root and canal configuration of the mandibular first molars, especially the morphology of the disto-lingual (DL) root, in a Chinese subpopulation. A total of 910 CBCT images of the mandibular first molars were collected from 455 patients who underwent CBCT examinations as a preoperative assessm...

The midline mandibular lingual canal: importance in implant surgery.

PURPOSE The study aims to determine if midline mandibular dental implants pose a risk for the midline lingual canal (MLC). MATERIALS AND METHODS Cone beam computed tomography was used to scan 122 mandibles (31 black males; 28 black females; 32 white males and 31 white females). Midsagittal sections in the reconstructed images were made. A measurement of 6 mm across bucco-lingually was delinea...

A Digital Stereomicroscopic Study of the Radicular Wall Thickness of Two-Canal Mandibular Incisors

OBJECTIVES This study aimed to assess the radicular wall thickness in mandibular incisors with two canals and find the maximum and minimum thickness to prevent root canal treatment (RCT) procedural errors. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 160 extracted mandibular incisors were selected and radiographed; out of which, 55 had two canals. Three parallel transverse sections were made in each toot...

Evaluation of the relationship between crown size and root canal morphology of mandibular incisors by cone beam computed tomography (CBCT)

BACKGROUND The main reason for the failure of endodontic therapy is the incomplete knowledge about the anatomical variation of root canals. One of the most important factors that leads to the failure of root canal treatment, is missed and untreated major root canals. OBJECTIVE with respect to the complexity of mandibular incisors treatment and high prevalence of the second canal, and the poss...
